Herbal Basics 1—Harvesting, Drying, & Storing Herbs:

Got herbs growing but not sure what to do with them?  Thinking about growing an herb garden, but would like to know what’s involved?  Join north fork herbalist April Alexander and “farmden”er Nicole Orens-Williams for Part 1 of this three-week series.  This week they will start at the beginning and review best practices for harvesting, drying, and storing your herbal bounty. Topics covered include: how and when to harvest different parts of herbs (such as leaves, flowers, and roots); using fresh herbs vs. dried herbs; the pros and cons of various types of drying; processing and long term storage. 

Weather permitting, we will forage in the medicinal herb garden for volunteer herbs to practice our skills.  While we always engage in lively discussions on the uses of herbs, this class will primarily focus on the hands-on side of herbalism.
